What is Custom Quick Chats?

A Windows tray app that maps controller or keyboard inputs to custom in-game chat messages. You edit messages on a visual grid, bind Chat Trigger directions or keyboard keys, and send through your game's normal chat channels — Public, Team, or Party — without typing mid-match.

Who is it for?

Anyone who uses in-game text chat and wants their own lines on speed dial — especially controller players tired of the quick-chat wheel, and keyboard players who repeat the same callouts every session. Built with Rocket League in mind but works in any game where chat opens with a key press.

Does it play the game for me?

No. The app sends chat messages only. It does not move, aim, boost, or automate gameplay. That chat-only boundary is intentional.

Do I need to keep the app window open while I play?

No. Custom Quick Chats runs in the system tray. Configure messages and bindings once, then play — open the editor or Controls / Keybinds only when you want to change something.

Is there a Setup Wizard?

Yes. Open Setup Wizard from the tray menu for a guided first-time walkthrough — license, chat keys, bindings, presets, and a test send. The in-app Instructions page mirrors the website guide.

Is it affiliated with any game or platform?

No. Custom Quick Chats is an independent utility published by Sandack Studios. It is not affiliated with game publishers, Psyonix, Epic, Microsoft, or console manufacturers.

Games & compatibility

4
Which games does it work with?

Any PC game where chat opens when you press a key — the app types your message and sends it the same way you would manually. Especially popular with Rocket League players but not limited to one title.

Which Windows versions are supported?

Windows 10 and Windows 11. You need a standard desktop session — the app is not designed for Xbox console or mobile.

Does it work with Steam, Epic, or other launchers?

Yes. The app runs at the Windows level and sends keystrokes to whichever game window is active. Your launcher does not matter as long as the game accepts keyboard chat input.

Can I use it in fullscreen or borderless window?

Yes, as long as your game receives keyboard input while in that mode. Custom Quick Chats and the overlay only work while your game is the active foreground window.

Messages & presets

4
How many custom messages can I have?

Up to 32 messages per preset — 16 on the Primary menu (two Chat Trigger directions in sequence) and 16 on the Secondary menu (Secondary Menu binding first, then two directions). Create multiple presets and enable the ones you want to cycle through.

What are presets?

Separate message sets for different situations — ranked callouts, casual banter, silly lines, and so on. Enable only the presets you need, drag to reorder, and switch mid-match from the tray menu, Next Preset, or a Cycle Preset hotkey.

Can I copy or share presets?

Presets live in your local settings. Use Backup/Restore in the app to keep snapshots of your configuration. There is no built-in cloud sync — your messages stay on your PC unless you back up the files yourself.

What is the secondary menu?

A second 4×4 grid of messages unlocked by your Secondary Menu binding under App Controls. Hold, single-press, double-press, or triple-press that binding first, then press two Chat Trigger directions — same as Primary chats but on the Secondary grid. Doubles your lines without conflicting with Primary binds.

Controller & keyboard

7
Can I use a controller, keyboard, or both?

Yes. Map directions under Controller Triggers and keys under Keyboard Triggers in Chat Controls. Use whichever input you play with — both can be configured on the same profile.

Which controllers are supported?

Xbox controllers (XInput), PlayStation controllers via WinMM, and virtual Xbox wrappers such as DS4Windows or Steam Input when they present as XInput. Auto mode prefers XInput and falls back to WinMM for native DualShock and DualSense.

My controller is not detected — what should I try?

Confirm the controller works in other apps. Check the app log from the tray menu for the active backend. Try WinMM mode explicitly for DualShock/DualSense, or a virtual Xbox wrapper if you rely on XInput. See Troubleshooting on the Instructions page.

What are chat keys and why do they matter?

Before typing your message, the app presses the key that opens chat in your game — Public, Team, or Party. These Chat Keys must match your in-game bindings under Controls / Keybinds → Chat Controls. Rocket League defaults are often Y, U, and T.

Why am I sending duplicate messages?

Usually the game and Custom Quick Chats both react to the same input — for example, an in-game quick-chat bind on the same D-pad direction. For Rocket League, unbind conflicting in-game quick-chat keys or clear unused Chat Trigger slots in the app.

What is the first-press timeout?

First Press Timeout under Options controls how long the on-screen chat menu stays open between Chat Trigger direction presses. Tune it if two-direction combos feel too tight or too loose.

What press modes do app shortcuts support?

Under App Controls, binds can use Hold, Single Press, Double Press, or Triple Press — including Secondary Menu. This applies separately to controller and keyboard shortcut tabs.

Game Bar overlay

5
What is the Game Bar overlay?

Optional Xbox Game Bar widgets that pin app status, custom message menus, and a Game Session Counter win/loss display on screen while you play.

Do I need the overlay to use the app?

No. The overlay is optional. Core quick-chat sending works entirely from the tray with no on-screen widgets.

How do I set up the overlay?

Install overlay widgets from the tray menu, then open Xbox Game Bar (Win+G) and pin the widgets where you want them. Game Bar must be enabled in Windows settings. After updates, press Win+G once if widgets do not appear.

What is the Game Session Counter?

Tracks a running win/loss net score for your session on the overlay when enabled. Press the Unlock hotkey to arm it, + or − to enter an adjustment, then Commit (default Enter) to apply. Set hotkeys under Controls / Keybinds → Game Session Counter. Toggle the overlay widget under Options.

Can I toggle the app or switch presets in-game?

Yes. Bind Enable/Disable App, Chat Type Toggle, Cycle Preset, Next Preset, and Previous Preset under App Controls. You can also use the tray menu or overlay widgets.

Purchase & licensing

8
Is it a one-time purchase or a subscription?

One-time purchase — no subscription. Standard price is $14.99 on the website. A lower price may appear in the app while your 14-day free trial is active (tray menu → Activate). Pay once, activate on your PC, and keep the full app: editor, presets, overlay, and updates included with your license.

How does the free trial work?

Install and launch the app to start a 14-day full-feature trial on that PC. No credit card required. One trial per computer — reinstalling does not reset it. When the trial ends, quick chat sending locks until you purchase and activate a license.

How do I activate after buying?

Get the installer from your purchase email, run it, then tray menu → Activate and paste your license key. See Instructions for a step-by-step walkthrough.

Can I use my license on more than one PC?

Your license is tied to activations, not unlimited simultaneous installs. Before moving to a new PC, use Deactivate Key on the old machine to free your slot, then activate on the new one.

I lost my license key — can I get it again?

Check your purchase email or receipt from Paddle. If you still cannot find it, submit a support ticket with the address you used at checkout.

What payment methods are accepted?

Checkout is conducted by Paddle.com, our Merchant of Record. Available payment methods are shown at checkout — we do not store your card details on our servers.

What do I receive when I purchase?

A one-time license for the Custom Quick Chats Windows app. After checkout with Paddle you get a license key by email and can download the installer from this website. Activate from the tray menu → Activate → paste your key. See Instructions for setup.

What is your refund policy?

The refund window is 14 days from the date of purchase. Paddle handles returns as Merchant of Record. Many setup issues are fixable — contact support before requesting a refund. See the Refund Policy page for details.

Settings, backups & updates

5
Does the app save automatically?

Settings are saved when you click Save Changes in each window. Every save also creates an automatic timestamped backup — browse them under Backup/Restore in the tray menu.

Where are my settings stored?

On your local PC. Settings and license validation data stay on your machine. License activation contacts our API to validate your key — we do not receive payment card details.

Can I adjust sound chimes?

Yes. Options lets you toggle and set volume individually for Secondary Menu, Enable App, Disable App, Public/Team/Party mode switches, Preset Switch, and a master volume slider.

Does the app update itself?

Check for updates from the tray menu. Updates are included with your license — no separate subscription.

Is there a dark or light theme?

Yes. Choose Dark or Light theme under Options. The app defaults to a dark UI that matches the website.

Privacy & safety

3
What data does the app collect?

Settings and messages stay on your PC. License activation validates your key with our API. Support reports you generate contain diagnostics you choose to send — only email them when you want help. See the Privacy Policy page for details.

Will I get banned for using this?

The app only sends chat through normal in-game channels — the same as typing yourself, faster. We cannot guarantee any game's enforcement policies, but the tool is chat-only by design with no gameplay automation. Use at your own discretion.

Does the website use analytics?

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics on this site to understand traffic — page views, referrers, and device type. We do not sell personal information.

Support

3
How do I contact support?

Submit a support ticket on our website. For bugs, use tray menu → Contact Support → Generate Report and mention the report in your ticket.

Messages are not sending — quick checklist

Check Enabled in the tray, confirm the preset checkbox is on, verify Chat Keys match in-game, and make sure your game is the active foreground window. Confirm your license is active, the message slot is not empty, and First Press Timeout fits your combo timing.

Where can I read more detailed guides?

The Instructions page mirrors the in-app guide — basics, Controls / Keybinds, Edit Quick Chats, Game Session Counter, Options, overlay, and backups. The FAQ here answers common questions at a glance.
